Refreshing the Page:Evolving Approaches in Digital Journalism

It is not news that journalism is undergoing dramatic change. New media technologies and audience usage patterns have fundamentally altered our field. As "new media" mature, some basic questions persist:

・How can we better leverage the unique tools of digital media?
・What do emerging and transitioning professionals need to know to adapt?
・What curriculum and teaching methods will meet this need?
・How can we create sustainable and profitable new media business models?

In response to these compelling questions, the University of Washington Master of Communication in Digital Media program is hosting a one-day seminar. Refreshing the Page: Evolving Approaches in Digital Journalism will bring together a group of acknowledged media experts, leading regional media professionals, academicians and top students.

The seminar, scheduled May 21 2005 from 10AM to 4PM at the University of Washington Club, includes presentations, a panel discussion and group interaction that will help to further identify and explore the issues of new media journalism. Through this event we hope to build interdisciplinary professional networks to help us navigate this exciting transformation.

The speaker list includes academics as well as working new media journalists from around the globe.

Participation in this free seminar is by invitation only. Luncheon will be served.
